What is an infrared sauna?

Saunas are an enclosed heated spaces that have been used for century through many different cultures for their many health and relaxation benefits. As its name indicates, an infrared sauna uses infrared lamp panels. Unlike traditional saunas that heat up the air at high temperatures (150 to 190F), infrared saunas are set up between 110F and 135F. The wavelengths penetrate the tissues and warm up your body directly, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of this heat bath much more comfortably without the extreme heat.

What are the benefits of infrared sauna?

  • Detoxification: Deep sweating help eliminate toxins from our daily environment and food, such as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, and pesticides, that accumulate in your body within the liver, kidney, fat tissues and increase the body’s ability to kill bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses.

  • Improved heart health and blood circulation: Heat widens the blood vessels, increases blood flow and heart rate. In the long term, sauna use can reduce blood pressure and risks of cardiovascular diseases.

  • Pain relief and muscle recovery: Sauna usage can speed up muscle recovery after a workout, eliminating lactic acid build-up and help ease overall joint and muscle pain. Sauna therapy is a promising treatment for chronic pain diseases, such as arthritis and lyme disease.

  • Relaxation and better sleep: Sauna provide a safe space to relax and unwind. Stress, anxiety, depression can creep up especially in colder darker climates such as Maine winters, and a heat session will warm up your body and soul, reducing mental stress and insomnia.

How to use the infrared sauna?

  • Set the temperature: start with a lower temperature of 110F and increase up to 135F after a few sessions.

  • Set the time: start with shorter 10 minutes sessions and increase to 30 minutes with repeated sessions.

  • Stay hydrated: Bring water, tea, or electrolytes drinks in with you.

  • Enjoy! Relax, read, meditate, listen to music, or catch up with a friend.
