LILY DOUGHER

Subscribing less to a particular brand name or style, Lily believes that a teacher should meet the student where they are so that the yoga is tailored to the needs of the student. On the mat she incorporates yoga philosophy and nursing knowledge into her teaching, she creates space for others to explore and experience how the mind, body, and spirit are all connected. Her sharp eye for reading students’ bodies, thorough anatomical study, and a deep interest in how the human body moves makes her an honest, compassionate teacher for the individual body .

Lily has been a student of yoga since she was 11 years old and is an advanced Registered Yoga Teacher (eRYT). She has trained with Many advanced, inspiring teachers. 200hrs vinyasa yoga, Certified level 1 & 2 Yin Yoga training, Forrest Yoga Teacher immersion, Mentorship with Nicole Clark. Lily finished 300hrs of Ashtanga Teacher Training with Kimberly Dahlmann (student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) and teacher immersions with Eddie Modestini (student of B.K.S. Iyengar). She is cerified in Ropewall and Slings from Alison West in NYC. She believes in the balance of hatha yoga in the Iyengar and Ashtanga methods and is able to embrace the grace and fluidity of Vinyasa

Lily’s years of yoga practice she has studied many traditions of yoga allowing her to develop her own unique style of invigorating flow and healthy alignment. She also is skilled in safe hands on adjustments and assists and holds master reiki (energy healing) certification. She believes the most important thing in a yoga class are the students.

In addition to being the Breathing Room owner  and teaching weekly group and private yoga sessions, she serves as a teacher mentor and is director of The Breathing Room’s celebrated 200-hour teacher training.

Off the Mat Lily graduated from UNE with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Born and raised in Southern Pines, NC, Lily found her second home in Portland, Maine with her husband Forrest and dog Maggie (you may get a glimpse of her in the studio!)

MARGO ROSINGANA

Margo began teaching yoga in Boulder, Colorado.  She received her 500 hour RYT status with Yoga Alliance after completing her training in alignment based Vinyasa flow with Shannon Paige, Chris Muchow and Nancy Kate Williams. Since then, Margo has felt drawn to learn and delve deeper into the art of teaching restorative yoga.  She completed Level I and II Anjali Restorative Yoga Teacher Training as well as Bhava Vinyasa Teacher Training, a practice that combines the fluidity of a vinyasa practice with the healing of intentional rest.  She has truly gained an intense awareness and appreciation for the transformative power of yoga.

Her Vinyasa classes offer a gentle intensity that is focused on connection to the breath and energetic alignment. Her restorative classes move the student through a series of supported poses with elements of imagery, guided meditation and Pranayama to allow the student to ease into a place of intentional rest.  This past year, Margo designed and implemented a series of one on one sessions that were inspired by the transformational power of yoga.  These are called Heart and Soul Sessions and are meant to be empowering to the student to break through ‘the funk’ in order to live a life more connected to their heart and soul.

With roots in New England, Margo recently moved to Portland, ME with her husband to be closer to family and the ocean, one of her favorite teachers.

Sarah Jane Whitridge

Sarah attributes her introduction to yoga to her mother, who is herself a long time yogi. She encouraged Sarah to attend her first class and reap the benefits of the practice. This journey began in 1998, when she was 17, in her native country of England. Since then, she has dipped in and out of yoga while working in the film industry, teaching, working in art restoration and navigating motherhood. Yoga was then, and continues to be, a constant calming resource in her life. She is passionate about breath work, meditation and the spiritual connection of yoga and its aid in traversing life’s ups and downs.

Sarah completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at the Breathing Room in 2013 and continued her study in 2015 with a further 200hr Ashaya Yoga® Teacher Training with Todd Norian.

She has taken a Restorative YTT with Margo Rosingana and also a Level 1 Children’s Yoga Teacher Training with Sharon Trull at ChildLight Yoga™.

She is incredibly humbled and honoured to be teaching in the Breathing Room community and likes to bring humour and honesty into the space and create carefully structured sequences for people from all walks of life.

Tania Zuckerman

Tania Zuckerman began her exploration of yoga in 1992 during her study of body, mind and spirit connections. For many years since then, yoga, meditation and breathwork have been an integral part of her personal and professional life as a powerful path to healing and body/mind awareness. She trained as a yoga teacher at the Breathing Room in South Portland in 2014 where she received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification. Tania has been facilitating individuals and groups in empowerment for over 12 years as a Somatic Breathwork practitioner. Holly Martzial

Holly Martzial is a Vinyasa Yoga instructor in Portland, Maine. She was first drawn to yoga upon discovering how the practice simultaneously energized her body and calmed her mind. As life got busier, Holly found herself craving more time on her mat. After about five years of steady practice Holly yearned for a deeper understanding of what was happening in her mind and body when she practiced yoga.

Holly took the first step toward immersing herself in the study of yoga in 2011 when she completed her Assistant Training at Prana Power Yoga in Cambridge, MA. and began regularly assisting classes beneath renowned teacher, Sue Jones. She loved enhancing the experience for the students through hands on assisting, and it was through this that Holly realized she wanted to become a teacher. Holly has since completed her 200 hour teacher training under the guidance of Jacqui Bonwell, as well as a Restorative Yoga Teacher Training at the Breathing Room with Margo Rosingana.

Holly’s comprehensive classes build from the ground up, emphasizing safe alignment while maintaining a fun and playful environment. She guides her students through a funky flow to energize and challenge the physical body and cools down with restorative techniques to calm the mind, all synced to an awesome soundtrack! Holly’s motto in life and in her teaching is: “Do YOU!” When you come to her class you will be encouraged to listen to your own body and allow your experience to be as individual as you are.

Kelley Voegelin

Kelley Voegelin is a Registered Yoga Teacher with over 600 hours of training. She teaches multiple forms of yoga, including Vinyasa, Prenatal, Restorative and Yin. Her studies in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine inspire her own practice and teaching methods. Her classes are often informed by seasonal practices, mudra & meditation.

Kelley offers a welcoming flow infused with clear alignment, breath awareness and mental focus. She believes in yoga’s ability to benefit everyone and in the profound balance and wellness that it brings her and her students. Kelley aims to challenge, nurture and inspire her students and believes yoga should always be available to everyone.

Kelley teaches group classes, private lessons, workshops, and does Yoga Teacher Trainings in Maine and New York. Making art, writing, gardening and being with her dog are just a few of the pleasures that fill her spare time.

Subs & Teaching at BR

While most of our regularly scheduled teachers swap and sub classes as needed, we do occasionally welcome a substitute teacher to lead classes in our space!  Our subs are talented, inspired, and have 200+ hours of training. We are so grateful to work with these talented teachers who occasionally sub in our space.

Melissa Ferrigno

Melissa Ferrigno began practicing yoga about 8 years ago. She was looking for an outlet to help balance all her day-to-day tasks while reducing stress and countering her other workout activities. After her first vinyasa yoga flow class she was hooked! She had found a place where she could let go and focus on her connection of mind, body, and spirit while also toning and strengthening her body. Melissa wanted to deepen her practice and learn more about the history and philosophy behind yoga and signed up for her 200 hour teacher training at Breathing Room in 2013. She has since received her Children’s Yoga training through Well Heart Yoga, and Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Margo Rosingana.

Whether it is your first time walking into a yoga class, or you have been practicing for years, Melissa hopes that each student is able to come to class, let go of their busy lives, and become reconnected to their breathe and body.
